Web Development Certification

So this website was originally something I did out of boredom. I was really into computers and I was very involved with the internet. So out of curiosity on my 23rd birthday I registered this domain and launched a php forum. I grew up on a php forum called jumpschool, and I hold those memories close to me. I was passionate about learning, and I enjoyed the power I had over the users. Not that I had to exercise it or anything. People behaved themselves on my forum, but it didn’t have a future.

I converted it into a video game media website, with it’s own video player and everything. It showed that I was capable of full stack development and knew what I was doing. Most of what I was doing I didn’t know how to do it until I did it. I learned as I went. I enjoyed it, and so I decided to acquire a certificate in Web Development. It took longer than expected, but I had various ‘playground’ websites while I pursued it. Some of my school projects are still hosted on this domain.

What I am writing this article about is to simply announce that I have successfully attained my certificate in Web Development, and am now searching for where and how to apply it. I didn’t document any of my websites along the way, so my portfolio is looking rather bare at the moment, but that’s something I am actively working on changing. This kind of creative work, like most, demands isolation,to be solitary. This allows the busy mind to focus. I’m a very independent person, so this career seemed like the best option.

I’m currently looking for employment opportunities on Indeed.com and LinkedIN.com, both of which have their own strengths. I am also working with the Texas Workforce Commission, who used to be the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services. This is new territory for me, something I’ve never had to do. The people I did websites for had confidence in my abilities and trusted that I’d get it done. I was never required to prove anything, to anyone. So this website, I think, is going to become my portfolio, as I no longer have the domain name of joshuapalmer.com, a name I registered really early on thinking that it would come in handy someday.

Well, now is that day. For now this website will have to play the part of portfolio and resume. My life has finally turned and began following a new path. I’m excited, nervous, but ecstatic about the possibilities. There is still so much that could happen, I just need to keep breathing so that my heart keeps beating to see it. I got engaged a long the way as well, which is something I never saw coming. I am happy though, I just hope I can find the time to complete this pursuit. Attached is a picture of my certification:
